Using the Platform
How can I post a claim?
Click on "New Claim" under the Account tab. Fill out the form with your thesis statement, prizes for you and your challengers, and the arbitration budget. Remember, offering more compensation for jurors can attract higher-ranking judges, leading to more accurate judgments. Your claim will be visible on the front page and in the relevant category, if specified.
How can I challenge a claim?
Click on the claim you wish to challenge. This will display the thesis statement you are opposing and allow you to submit your challenge. You can sort claims by topic using the Browse Claims tab.
How do I become a juror?
The Steelman Network automatically selects jurors based on ranking and desired compensation. If you want to adjudicate more debates, try lowering your pay grade offset. You'll receive an email when selected.
Juror Guidelines
How should I answer debaters' questions as a juror?
Respond as you believe they want you to. Your job is to demonstrate your ability to understand and steelman their arguments.
What if debaters ask how I'm going to vote?
The questionnaire tests your understanding, not your opinions. You're not obligated to share your opinions. It's acceptable to feign agreement to demonstrate understanding of the issues.
What if a debater presents additional arguments in their questions?
Consider voting against them. Arguments should be made in the debate itself, not the Juror questionnaire.
Platform Features
What are the colored borders around claim icons?
These indicate your role in the debate: No border - available to challenge; Blue - active participant; Green - on Juror panel; Yellow - not directly associated; Grey - inactive claim.
What is my Pay Grade Offset?
This allows you to adjust the debates you're offered based on compensation. A negative offset increases invitations at reduced pay, while a positive offset may increase compensation but group you with more talented jurors.
